Date & Restaurant: October 11th at Rancho de Chimayo in Chimayo, NM.
Meet Up & Time: KSU 8:15 am at the Phillips 66 in Bernalillo, NM (on the north side of Hwy 550, the smaller Warrior fuel station).
Mileage oneway: Approximately 115 miles of pavement riding from our meet up in Bernalillo.
Route: Head North on HWY 550 toward San Ysidro. We’ll take NM 4 into the Jemez mountains. The route will take us through White Rock (to avoid Los Alamos) and Pojoaque. From NM 503 we’ll head North onto the High Road to Taos and into Chimayo for lunch.
The returning route is always up to you. Feel free to grab more twisty pavement or the interstate. The group will often sort out who wants to go where and ride together.
Level: Intermediate. There will be speeds that exceed 70 mph and a few sections of road on this route are narrow, twisty, and cliff-edged.
Fuel: Please fuel up before we leave. Route is approximately 115 miles. The closest fuel after lunch is in Espanola.
Return to Albuquerque: Riders have the option of going their own way back home. We may retrace our steps, or take another route home. This is often discussed over lunch and small groups form for those that want different routes.
Note: The route is all-paved intermediate level ride. The restaurant has a gravel parking lot. It’s going to be chilly, so wear layers (and have a way to stow them as well).
Weather: This ride is based largely on weather. If the weather is not in our favor, the Destination Lunch Ride will be cancelled.
